About

b. 1995 fl, usa

Cort Hartle is an artist and educator living and working in the Philadelphia area.  Leaning into poetics and intuition, their multidisciplinary practice explores shared memory, storytelling, and place through painting, sculpture, archives, and book arts. They are particularly interested in the entangled relationships between people and their social and material environments, and the narrative processes through which those relationships are built and changed.

In addition to their studio practice, they believe in the potential of artmaking as tool for collective liberation and publish Substrate, a quarterly zine that asks artists and writers to consider what a better world might look like.

Cort’s work has been exhibited by spaces such as the Tampa Museum of Art (FL), Field Projects (NYC), Big Medium (TX), the Johnson Fine Arts Center at Northern State University (SD), and the Munich Zine Library (Germany).  They are a self and community-taught artist, and earned a BA in Anthropology from the University of South Florida in 2018.
